Characteristics

  • Project: ENWG Energienetze Weimar GmbH & Co. KG, Weimar
  • Category: Energy supply company
  • ASSA ABLOY components: eCLIQ master key system from the IKON brand with around 7,000 locking cylinders, with management via CLIQ web manager
  • ASSA ABLOY partner: Schlüssel Körtelt GmbH, Weimar

The challenge

ENWG Energienetze Weimar GmbH & Co. KG is responsible for a secure and efficient power supply in Weimar and its districts. The company operates large-scale electricity and gas networks as well as complementary telecommunications infrastructure. The large number of systems in public spaces – distributed across the entire supply area and several districts – requires reliable protection for the technical systems. The special challenge is that the locking solution must not only meet the high security requirements but also offer flexibility in installation, allow for simple handling during operation and provide resistance to weather, vandalism and wear. The many locations and the fact that the equipment is exposed to the elements also mean that it must be operated with as little maintenance as possible.

Solution

After competent and comprehensive consultation with Schlüssel Körtelt GmbH, ENWG decided on the IKON eCLIQ electronic master key system. The system can be expanded and adapted to individual needs as desired. The technology enables profile cylinders to be integrated without separate cabling. These robust cylinders are maintenance-free, designed for demanding environmental conditions and available in over 60 variants, including those certified to ATEX explosion protection standards. The system is powered exclusively with a standard battery in the key. Access authorisations can be updated remotely at any time or withdrawn immediately in the event of key loss. Access can be enabled for a limited period of time, for example for tradespeople or external service providers. All in all, ENWG has a scalable, secure and weatherproof system that significantly simplifies administrative processes.
