Associate Mechanical Design Engineer

Do you have a passion for engineering design and a desire to develop innovative products that make a real impact? Join the ASSA ABLOY Traka and KEYper team in Olney and become part of a cooperative environment where you can learn from experienced engineers, develop your technical skills, and build a career you can be proud of.

What you would do as our Associate Mechanical Design Engineer

As an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer, you will assist the design and development of new and existing products across the Traka and KEYper portfolio. Working closely with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, you will contribute to bringing ideas from concept through to production while gaining valuable experience in product development, manufacturing processes, and engineering best practices.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your engineering career through involvement in both new product development and continuous improvement projects. You will work within our flexible R&D working model, with regular attendance at our Olney office for collaboration, prototyping, testing, and other hands-on engineering activities.

You would also be responsable for:

• Assisting the development of mechanical design solutions for new and existing products, progressing concepts through to production release while working with suppliers and a variety of manufacturing processes including sheet metalwork, injection moulding, aluminium extrusion, and die-casting.

• Creating and maintaining CAD models, engineering drawings, and Bills of Materials using Autodesk Inventor, while managing technical documentation through Autodesk Vault Professional.

• Collaborating with the Hardware Development Team to solve technical challenges, ensuring designs are robust, manufacturable, cost-effective, and compliant with relevant standards and safety requirements.

• Managing assigned tasks in line with project plans while contributing to value engineering (VAVE) and continuous improvement initiatives across the product portfolio.

• Building testing, and evaluating prototypes to validate designs and assist the development of innovative product solutions.

The skills and experience you need
We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience) and has a solid knowledge of engineering principles and design practices.

• Has experience using 3D CAD software, ideally Autodesk Inventor, and can demonstrate involvement in engineering design or product development projects.

• Has a good knowledge of manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, injection moulding, extrusion, and die-casting, as well as an awareness of electro-mechanical product development

• Has strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to present technical information both verbally and in writing while working effectively within a team environment.

• Ideally has exposure to tools and methodologies such as Jira, Confluence, FMEA, mechanical simulation, technical work instructions, or design for sustainability principles.
